2013

Latham Memorial Fountain Unveiled was a site-specific text installation by Kari Marboe that told the story of how the fountain came to be in Latham Square using history pulled from the Oakland Public Library and the artist’s original writing style. With this work, Marboe focused on the structure of this memorial artwork and how citizens are preserved within a city.

A catalog written by local arts contributor Sarah Hotchkiss contextualizes the work within the site and touch upon the current art discourse surrounding text based site-specific works. (PDF available on BLOCK Gallery's website.)

This project was made possible by the Downtown Oakland Association, Rotunda Dental, the City of Oakland and FastSigns of Downtown Oakland.
