Bay Area artist Audrey Hodtwalker is interested in the changing relationship between friend and food. Strange Poultry, which opened at mg gallery in August, aimed to examine how modern science has changed the face of the human diet. The homogenization of our food supply has allowed for everything to 'taste like chicken.' Advancements in genetic engineering and hormone science have enabled greater food yields at the cost of our connection to nature. Hodtwalker's sculptures utilize the foreign and the familiar to address issues of human consumption, imposition, and manipulation in poultry farming.
